Transport sustainability

A recent initiative in Western Australia with De Luca Banana Marketing that leverages our Distribution Centre to supermarket deliveries and our national rail network removed over 1 million truck kms off Australian roads1, reduced our emissions by 1,344 Tonnes2 and offset the need to plant 6,722 trees3.

While in Victoria, a plan to use our store fleet to pick up supplier goods and deliver them into our Distribution Centres will remove 125,424 of truck kms off Victoria roads4, reduce our emissions by 100 Tonnes5 and offset the need to plant 500 trees3 every year.

And in New South Wales Coles we've partnered with Linfox Logistics to deliver goods from Coles' Eastern Creek Distribution Centre in Sydney's west to several Coles and Coles Local supermarkets in the state using our first electric truck. The truck is powered entirely by 100% renewable electricity and will avoid more than 60 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions being produced each year6.
All up by consolidating loads and moving more stock via rail, we're taking approximately 16,429 trucks off the road every year. And a further 36,218 trucks are also removed when we use our store fleet to pick up supplier goods after they complete a store delivery, rather than have them returning to the Distribution Centres empty.
